Early Spring - end of April & beginning of May
 Birder Recommendation: Raptor migration is strong -Take Brockway Mountain Drive stopping along the way at many scenic turnouts to observe the raptors along the flyway. The Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch is taking place at the peak. Visit the counter as he surveys the skies for passing raptors. The Lake Superior shoreline is a great spot for birds and keep your eye on the sky! Sparrows are here - a good spot to view many species is Clyde's Bird Trail. The warblers are arriving in great numbers. Check out Lake Manganese and the Red Trail for woodland visitors and don't miss Manganese Falls while the spring waters are still high are flowing strong.
Saturday, May 11th ~ Official International Migratory Bird Day
3:00 pm - Northwoods Wildlife Center program "Birds of Prey"
Unique adaptations help these special birds hunt and survive. Come learn about just a few. This is a fun program for the whole family. You will meet a few of their resident birds up close and personal. This program is about 1 hour. Held at the Grant Township Community Hall adjacent to the Copper Harbor Visitor Center. Suggested donation $5.00 per person - kids free!
5:00 pm - Raptors of the Keweenaw - Dinner & Show with Photographer Vic Berardi
Held at the Tamarack Inn, corner of US-41 and 6th at the blinker light. Come anytime between 5:00 and 5:30 to enjoy a delicious dinner of Whitefish, chicken or lasagna complete with beverage and dessert. Feel free to bring your own beer or a bottle of wine for dinner.
Immediately following, Vic will give a photo presentation of the raptors migrating over Brockway Mountain. Enjoy his stunning photos and learn about these amazing birds of prey. Cost is $15.00 to benefit Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch.

8:00 am - Morning Bird Walk
Enjoy a casual walk through fields and around ponds. Meet at the Copper Harbor Visitor Center, don't forget your camera and binos!
Birder Recommendation: It's time for more warblers, songbirds and the flycatchers are arriving too - Take woodland and field walks, Hunter's Point, Estivant Pines, Fort Wilkins - There is still raptor activity, just not as heavy now. Check out the harbor and Clyde's Bird Trail ponds for water birds.

7:00 pm - Manitou Island & Isle Royale Bird Surveys with Joseph Youngman
This presentation will feature an update to the long running Manitou Island Bird Survey as well as the newest water bird study on Passage Island, Isle Royale National Park. Along with new data and interesting findings, Joe will share many beautiful images of the islands.
Sunday, May 26th
7:00 am - Birds and Bugs Field Trip: Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary
Join Joseph Youngman and Lynn Murphy for a fun and interesting trip through the Estivant Pines. A Michigan Nature Association event.
Meet at the E Pines trailhead. To get there, follow US 41 north to the blinking light at Copper Harbor and turn right, go 4 blocks and turn right on 2nd Street at the Community Center and sign for Lake Manganese. Follow 2nd Street (also called Manganese Road) for 1.2 miles, bearing left onto Clark Mine Road (dirt road). Travel 1.2 miles and turn right by the pond and then a quick right onto Burma Road. Travel another .65 miles to the trailhead and parking area.
Birder Recommendation: The migration is slowing down at this time but is still going. It's a great time see the birds that stay and nest here while they are still active and looking for nesting territories. There is still raptor activity, but slowing steadily. Everywhere you look there are birds!
